• Kanji View for flash card - When the code @K is placed in the remark field of a flash card, the card is displayed in a layout more suitable for Kanji study (see screen shot). When an entry is added to the wordbox from any dictionary using the kanjidic format, this code will be inserted automatically.

  Note that all of the lupe features are available here too, i.e. you can use the scribble pad and character animations.

• Jouyou Kanji Flash Cards - You can download a set of ready made flash cards for the Jouyou Kanji (based on Jim Breen's kanjidic), organized in to wordboxes (vocabulary list files) by grade.

• Ignore Case - When using "ignore case" while looking up Japanese words, a Katakana character will match its corresponding Hiragana character, and vice versa.

• Word Boundaries - Japanese doesn't use white space to separate words, so searching for a particular word within a sentence is a bit tricky, unless you do an unrestricted full-text search, which is usually too slow. To still be able to take advantage of indexing, a simple approach is taken: a non-Kana character following a Kana character is considered a boundary between words, i.e. the two characters are treated as if there were white space between them. To illustrate this, the following shows all separations that would be found in two example sentences:

  

  This is certainly not guaranteed to correctly find actual word boundaries (e.g. the second sentence in the example is treated as one "word"). In practice however, this approach is still a quite useful compromise, in so far as it helps to find the beginnings of Kanji sequences. When looking up with "words open to the right", the search term tukatteimasu would not be found in the above example, but jisho, benri, and mainichi would.
